Archaeology recently completed at site CG-10, the Atkinson Site near Carter’s Grove Plantation, has revealed a seventeenth-century house complex owned by middling planter Thomas Atkinson between 1680 and 1710. It is possible that a small building near the main house was occupied by African-American slaves.
