The Department of Architectural Research pursues its long-term scholarly goals
through an on-going program of research and publication. As part of this work,
we visit and assess dozens of historic properties each year. The product of
this fieldwork is usually a set of high-quality digital photographs and a
short written report; when appropriate, it also includes detailed measured
drawings. Here we will soon post illustrated field memoranda from some of
our most recent research trips.

The Buildings of Williamsburg
- In addition to our work further a-field, we are constantly re-assessing
the historic resources here in Williamsburg. Our research in town takes many
forms, from short memos to extensive historic structures reports. Here, we
present a sample of illustrated shorter entries on some of the eighteenth-century
buildings in town. In time, we will also include discussions of important
reconstructed buildings in this section.
