Visual Resources, Reference Services

The Visual Resources Librarian provides in-person, phone, fax, and email reference assistance to researchers who wish to conduct picture research, order reproductions, or secure permission to exhibit or publish images.

Appointments

Use of the Visual Resources Collection requires assistance from department staff. To schedule a visit, please contact the Visual Resources Editorial Librarian several days in advance by e-mail at vrc@cwf.org, or by phone at (757) 565-8542.

Hours of Operation

Researchers may consult the Visual Resources Collection by appointment only. Appointments may be scheduled M-F between 9am-12 noon and 1-5 pm. To schedule a visit, please contact the Visual Resources Librarian by e-mail at mmartin@cwf.org, or by phone at (757) 565-8542.

Virtual Reference

Researchers who are unable to visit the Library in person may send inquiries to the Visual Resources Librarian by e-mail at mmartin@cwf.org , or by fax at (757) 565-8528. Response time will vary depending upon the volume of internal reproduction requests being processed.

Rights & Reproductions

Photo editorial services are available upon request to authors and publishers who wish to use images from the Visual Resources Collection. Requests to publish or exhibit images must be submitted via Permission Forms. A fee schedule is available for both North American and World rights. Multimedia and Internet uses of images are subject to licensing and may require special negotiations.

Duplicates of images can be made by the Department of Photo Services when there are no restrictions on duplication of the image. Inkjet print-outs, digital images, and digital prints of online and archival images are available upon request.
